Administration of Medications in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Treatment

We know that injection of medications during assisted reproduction treatment stimulates ovarian follicles and allows for obtaining more than one egg; thus, increasing the chance of success.

Naturally, we observe more than one follicle of the ovarian reserve ready to grow at the onset of the menstrual cycle. However, the amount of hormone produced by the brain is sufficient for the growth of only one follicle. Since there is one egg in each follicle; this single egg in the single follicle will grow for establishing a pregnancy. Other follicles and egg cells inside will be discarded without being used. When we perform injections of hormones that grow the follicle, we offer the same chance of growing for all follicles naturally selected from the ovarian reserve for that menstrual cycle. Thus, we end in having more than one egg cell to be used for fertilization by sperms.    

How are injections administered for assisted reproduction treatment?

The injections can be self-administered in the abdominal region or in the arms. Injections should be made everyday regularly. During these injections, you will be followed up via ultrasound examinations in our center at regular intervals and the response of your ovaries is monitored. The number of growing follicles is found and their growth rate is monitored. When necessary, medication doses can be adjusted.  

For how many days are medications ınjected during assisted reproduction treatment?

The injections during assisted reproduction treatment are performed for 10-12 days on the average. However, this length of time varies from one person to another.
